Con lo en serio que se toman a sí mismos la mayoría de grupos, no viene mal que de vez en cuando aparezca gente como Art Brut, que se ríen de poses, filias, fobias y tics del mundo del pop y del rock. Se meten con intocables como la Velvet Underground, con los coleccionistas obsesivos de discos, con los grupos flequilleros que salen como setas a lo largo de Inglaterra… y los tíos tienen bastante gracia.
Lo malo es que llegué hasta ellos después de escuchar su single Emily Kane, que me pareció buenísimo, y el resto del disco, dejando de lado las letras, es muy irregular. Tanto meterse con los demás, y al final ellos podrían ser también el blanco de las mofas, pues en muchos temas suenan tan mediocres como los Libertines y demás grupos más preocupados de salir guapos en las fotos que de escribir buenas canciones.
¿Un disco de humor entonces? Pues casi que sí. Eso sí, Emily Kane es todo un himno, con un estribillo enorme y una emocionante letra sobre la idealización de los amores adolescentes. La frase I want schoolkids on buses singing your name! es sencillamente brutal.
